Exhilarating wreck and bottom fishing in Ocean City, MD

For seasoned pros, Captain Jeff will put you right on the hottest spots, while our crew is there to assist as needed. New to bottom or wreck fishing? No problem! Our experienced crew will guide you through the process, helping you get hooked up—sometimes on every drop when the action is hot.

Wreck fishing in Ocean City is one of our favorite types of charters, and it’s easy to see why. You never know what you’ll reel up, even when targeting specific species. The thrill of a tautog hammering your rig or the surprise of a double-header with big knothead sea bass will have even the most seasoned anglers grinning ear to ear.

On The OC Girl, we provide all the bait, rigs, rods, and reels you’ll need. You can handle your own gear, or if you prefer to focus on reeling in fish, our mates will bait your hooks and take care of everything else. Many of our regulars bring their own rods and rigs, especially when tautog fishing. Fresh bait is always available, and since bottom fishing runs all season long, dressing appropriately for the weather is key.

What to expect during bottom fishing

Our bottom fishing charters cater to a wide range of species, offering exciting, year-round opportunities for anglers. Depending on the season, here’s what you can expect:

Sea Bass Charters:

Sea bass fishing peaks in spring and fall, with prime times from April to May and again from late September through November. These trips are action-packed thanks to large fish concentrations. You’ll be pulling in doubles from over 100 feet of water, so be ready for a workout!

Flounder Charters:

Flounder fishing in Ocean City runs from spring through fall. The bite heats up in late spring and summer as the water warms, then picks up again when flounder move offshore to cooler, deeper waters. Bottom bouncing over structured areas just off the coast is highly effective.

Tautog (Tog) Charters:

Spring and fall offer excellent tautog fishing opportunities. Ocean City’s wrecks and artificial reefs are teeming with tautog, and patience pays off when you feel that freight-train bite. Once you’re hooked up, it’s a battle to see if you can reel fast enough before the tautog pulls you back into the wreck.

Surprise Guests:

While targeting specific fish, you’ll likely encounter other species depending on the season and water temperature. During fall sea bass trips, we often come across mahi-mahi. Bluefish are a common catch almost year-round when bottom fishing. You might also reel in triggerfish, sheepshead, and other surprise species that keep things exciting.
