Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping day on the water! Our journey begins as we motor out to prime fishing grounds, targeting areas with bottom structures like lumps, depth changes, wrecks, or holes. We’ll scan the horizon for tell-tale signs of shark activity—look for birds circling, slicks on the water, and schools of baitfish.
Once we find the perfect spot, we’ll start our drift and set up a chum slick using 5-gallon buckets or chum bags aboard The OC Girl. Depending on conditions, we might use anywhere from 1 to 8 gallons of chum to lure in the big ones.
With the chum in place, we’ll bait several rods—larger, heavier gear for offshore giants and lighter tackle for inshore sharks.
Lines and floats will be strategically placed at varying depths and distances to maximize your chances of a bite. We’ll also keep a pitch bait ready for those sneaky sharks that pop up alongside the boat.
When a shark strikes, it’s game on! You’ll be strapped into a fighting harness or butt protector to battle your catch. The fight could last anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour, depending on the size and species. Once the shark is boat-side, we’ll either gaff it for you to keep or release it back into the wild.
If it’s a protected species or you choose to release it, we’ll ensure a safe and humane process, allowing the shark to swim away unharmed.
